Book List #27-----

Ok, We have now made it half way on the list to reaching our goal of 1000. Since we have made it to this point I have a question? My youngest who is five now shows all of the signs of reading but just refuses to do it. Is there any way to get him to it himself. He actually prefers that we read to him. I won't stop doing that but I want him to try reading more. He actually will take all of the library books and go through them making up his own story. Loves playing on starfall, even read one of the stories on there to me, but not with out a fight. He loves books and shows all of the signs of reading but just wont do it. Any ideas?
Well here is our list for this week....

472.) Potty! by Mylo Freeman

474.) Wild Will by Ingrid and Dieter Schubert
475.) Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Kids by David Kirk

500.)My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss
501.) On Beyond Zebra by Dr. Seuss
502.) Horton hears a Who! by Dr. Seuss
503.) If I Ran the Zoo by Dr. Seuss

If I had to pick out one book on this list that I really like it would have to be O'Sullivan Stew. It was a great Irish story. It would be nice one if you want to read an Irish story on St. Patricks day, all though there is no leprechuans (sp?) in it. It was just a really good book. Gabe loved The Dirty Little Boy. It was about a little boy that tries to learn how to get clean by watching animals. Sam, other than the graphic novels, loved Dave and Jane in outer Space. It gives an interesting idea on how earth got populated.
So if anyone has any ideas on how I get Gabe to actually want to read on his own that would be great. Thanks in advance and Happy Reading!!!!

I love reading your book lists to get new ideas!
As for starting reading... for my son, he had to do it on his terms. Like Gabe, JediBoy showed all the readiness signs, loved to be read to, and could read small stories (Starfall, Bob Books) if I pressed him to. Still, he WOULD NOT READ. But I had to sit back and be patient until HE decided HE was going to read! Now he's a great reader. So my wise words of wisdom (!) are - just keep doing what you're doing. A love of books is the most important thing, and the rest will come when he's ready!

I agree with the first comment...just keep reading. He'll do it when he is ready. P is on the cusp as well.
I'm sure they'll both make it soon.
