Oh it was a sandy time this week for our unplug your kids projects. The theme was sand that is. We thought that since the boys are going to see their mimi and grammie (if you are reading this mom and gram pretend that you do not know ok) in a couple weeks they could make a present for them. The boys made sand vases and candle holders.
To make them you need sand and glue. Of course something to put it on. We took some glass jars out of the recycable bin. Then plenty of newspaper and trays to catch all of the sand.
You start of taking the jar and paint glue in the spots that you want to cover with the sand.
Daddy made sure to help Gabe out with the next step of pouring on the sand. Just to explain our sand for a moment. We had gone to the beach and brought back buckets of sand. I turned it into colored sand with some of the craft paints I had on hand, an idea I got from Amber. You just put a little paint in with sand a shake until it is all coated. We poured them into trays and let the sand dry. To store I just keep them in old Parmesean cheese containers. Then the boys can just pour out what they needed. Sorry for the side trip not back to the project already in progress.
The boys finished product. They came out really beautiful.
Make sure to join us for next weeks project. Until then check out everyone else's project over here.

Ooh..very pretty!!
Cool idea to paint the sand...I think I read somewhere that you can do that with chalk too. You roll the chalk over the sand and it takes on the color. Probably not as bright, though.
Great idea for coloring the sand. I am sure the grandparents will love their gifts. Good job up-cycling, too!
Wonderful!
Great ideas and gifts too!! I think even my little one could do that!
I was trying to decide what the best way to color sand would be, that's a good idea!
Ohhh I love it.. I didnt even think of that!! we just did the glue and sand - very unimaginative
Those are pretty! Neat idea!
These are really sweet. I love projects that can be gifts!
Those are really beautiful and are a present I'm sure the recipients will adore. We made similar ones before using colored salt.
Those are great! Love the colored sand. I have heard of this being done with food coloring, but that sounds dangerously mess. I like your paint idea much better. I hope Mom and Gram like their gifts!
